A Prayer for the Caregiver Who Has Nothing Left

For those exhausted by caring for others — finding grace when the well runs dry

Rest

▶ Listen in English

Lord, I am tired in a way I cannot explain to people who haven't lived it. Not the kind of tired that a good night's sleep repairs — the kind that has moved into my bones and set up a home there. I love the person I care for. I chose this. And still, today I reached into myself and found almost nothing left to give. Forgive me for the sharp words, the impatient sighs, the moments I was physically present and emotionally a thousand miles away. Remind me that you see every invisible act — every medication sorted, every sleepless night, every need met quietly with no one watching. I am not made of infinite reserves, but you are. Pour into me from a source that doesn't run dry. And God — please send someone to care for the caregiver. I need it too. Amen.

Reflection

Caregiving is one of the most Christlike things a person can do — and one of the loneliest. When Elijah collapsed under a tree and told God he was finished (1 Kings 19:4), God didn't respond with a lecture or a pep talk. He sent an angel with bread and water. Twice. God does not shame exhaustion; He tends to it. If you are depleted today, you are not failing your calling — you are human. And God meets humans exactly there.
