A Prayer for the One Fighting Depression

An honest prayer for those fighting depression — when getting out of bed feels like a war and God feels impossibly far away.

Hope

▶ Listen in English

God, some days just getting out of bed feels like fighting a war I didn't choose and can't seem to win. The darkness isn't dramatic — it's just heavy, relentless, and quietly convincing me that nothing will change. I know the right words to say, but right now I can barely say anything at all. I don't need a sermon right now — I need You to sit with me in this. You are the God who met Elijah under the broom tree, exhausted and asking to die, and You didn't rebuke him — You fed him and let him rest. Do the same for me. Be near me in the gray, in the numb, in the days when I fake being okay. And when I can't feel You, remind me that Your presence doesn't depend on my ability to sense it. Amen.

Reflection

In 1 Kings 19, Elijah collapses in the desert and tells God he wants to die — and God's first response is not correction but care: bread, water, and rest. Depression is not a sign of weak faith; it is a human wound that God meets with compassion. Psalm 34:18 promises He is close to the brokenhearted — and that closeness holds even when we cannot feel it.
