A Prayer for Empty Arms

A raw, honest prayer for those longing for a child and wrestling with grief, unanswered questions, and fragile faith.

Hope

▶ Listen in English

Lord, I don't know how to talk to You about this anymore. Every month brings its own quiet grief — the hoping, the counting, the waiting, and then the hollow kind of loss that doesn't have a name most people recognize. I have prayed over my body more times than I can count, and still my arms feel empty in a way that goes bone-deep. I don't want easy answers or well-meaning words; I want a child, and I want to know that You actually hear me in this longing. Don't let me lose myself in the ache — don't let me lose my marriage, my hope, or my faith in You when I am this tired of waiting. Hold me in the space between desire and surrender, because I cannot get there on my own. I trust, even when it's hard to trust, that You see me — not my fertility, not my failure, but me — and that You are not done writing this story yet. Amen.

Reflection

Hannah wept so deeply in the temple that the priest thought she was drunk — her grief was that visible, that raw (1 Samuel 1:13). Yet God saw her not as a failure or a problem to fix, but as a woman fully known and fully loved. If infertility has left you feeling invisible or forgotten, know that the God who formed you before you were born (Psalm 139:13) has not looked away from this particular pain. Your longing is not a lack of faith — it is proof that your heart is alive and hoping.
