For those who love their spouse but feel the distance growing — when marriage becomes more roommate than partnership.

God, we're still here. Still under the same roof, still saying good morning, still going through the motions — but something between us has gone quiet, and I don't know exactly when it happened or whose fault it is or how to find our way back. We were once people who couldn't stop talking. Now I lie awake at night next to the person I chose and feel alone in a way I can't explain to anyone, because from the outside we look fine. We are fine, mostly. But fine is not what I promised. Fine is not what we were. I'm afraid to say it out loud because naming it makes it real, and maybe makes it worse. So I'm saying it to You instead: we've drifted. And I don't know how to row back toward each other without someone getting hurt or feeling blamed or becoming defensive. Soften us toward each other. Help me to see my spouse the way You see them — not as an obstacle or a disappointment, but as someone also carrying invisible weight, also wondering if they're enough. Remind me that love is less a feeling and more a direction. And point us both that way, even if we have to start from a place of honest, uncomfortable silence. Amen.
In Ephesians 4:32, Paul writes: 'Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.' Marriage doesn't grow cold all at once — it grows cold in a hundred small moments when choosing kindness was hard and we chose silence instead. What has drifted can drift back; what has grown cold can be warmed again, not through dramatic gestures but through the daily practice of turning toward the person beside you.
