A Prayer for the Baby We Never Got to Hold

A raw, tender prayer for those grieving pregnancy loss and the silent weight of an empty cradle.

Comfort

▶ Listen in English

Lord, I held a life I never got to hold. I had plans — names picked, futures imagined, love already pouring out of me — and now I carry a silence no one else seems to know how to sit with. I'm grieving someone the world barely acknowledged existed, and that grief is heavy and real and mine. I'm angry sometimes, and I need You to be okay with that. I don't need You to explain it — I need You to mourn with me, the way You wept at Lazarus's tomb, fully God and fully undone by loss. Tell me You saw that tiny life. Tell me it mattered. Help me breathe today, even when breathing feels like a betrayal of what I've lost. And when the time comes — not now, but someday — restore me gently to hope. Amen.

Reflection

Jesus wept (John 11:35) — the shortest verse in Scripture, and perhaps the most profound. God is not distant from your sorrow over what was lost; He enters it. Psalm 34:18 promises that 'the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' Your grief is not a failure of faith — it is the evidence of love, and every love is seen and held by the One who formed that life and knows its name.
